CJEU on time limits in international-protection cases
In its judgment of 1 October 2026 in Case C-249/25 Jilin, the CJEU held that an EU country may not automatically suspend an international-protection application solely because of temporary protection. The judgment interprets Directive 2013/32, which applies to applications lodged before 12 June 2026; later applications are governed by Regulation (EU) 2024/1348. In Poland, filing such an application generally ends temporary protection, so the judgment and the applicant's residence status must be assessed separately.
